Allah Messenger ﷺ came from behind it and rebuked it and prayed for it so it started surpassing the other camels and going ahead of them. Then he asked me; How do you find your camel now ? I replied; I find it quite well; now as it has received your blessings. He said; Will you sell it to me? I felt shy to refuse his offer though it was the only camel for irrigation we had. So; I said; Yes. He said; Sell it to me then. I sold it to him on the condition that I should keep on riding it till I reached Medina. Then I said; O Allah Apostle! I am a bridegroom; and requested him to allow me to go home. He allowed me; and I set out for Medina before the people till I reached Medina; where I met my uncle; who asked me about the camel and I informed him all about it and he blamed me for that. When I took the permission of Allah Messenger ﷺ he asked me whether I had married a virgin or a matron and I replied that I had married a matron. He said; Why hadnt you married a virgin who would have played with you; and you would have played with her? I replied; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! My father died or was martyred and I have some young sisters; so I felt it not proper that I should marry a young girl like them who would neither teach them manners nor serve them. So; I have married a matron so that she may serve them and teach them manners. When Allah Messenger ﷺ arrived in Medina; I took the camel to him the next morning and he gave me its price and gave me the camel itself as well. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4633
  3. Narrated Jabir Bin Abdullah: I was accompanying the Prophet ﷺ on a journey and was riding a slow camel that was lagging behind the others. The Prophet ﷺ passed by me and asked; Who is this? I replied; Jabir Bin Abdullah. He asked; What is the matter; why are you late ? I replied; I am riding a slow camel. He asked; Do you have a stick? I replied in the affirmative. He said; Give it to me. When I gave it to him; he beat the camel and rebuked it. Then that camel surpassed the others thenceforth. The Prophet ﷺ said; Sell it to me. I replied; It is a gift for you; O Allah Messenger ﷺ. He said; Sell it to me. I have bought it for four Dinars gold pieces and you can keep on riding it till Medina. When we approached Medina; I started going towards my house. The Prophet ﷺ said; Where are you going? I Sad; I have married a widow. He said; Why have you not married a virgin to fondle with each other? I said; My father died and left daughters; so I decided to marry a widow an experienced woman to look after them. He said; Well done. When we reached Medina; Allah Messenger ﷺ said; O Bilal; pay him the price of the camel and give him extra money. Bilal gave me four Dinars and one Qirat extra. A sub-narrator said : Jabir added; The extra Qirat of Allah Messenger ﷺ never parted from me. The Qirat was always in Jabir Bin Abdullah purse. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4981

There my maternal uncle met me and asked me about the camel; and I told him what I had done with regard to it. He reproved me in this connection. He Jabir said: When I asked his permission to go ahead of the caravan Allah Messenger ﷺ inquired of me whether I had married a virgin or a non-virgin. I said to him: I have married a non-virgin. He said: Why did you not marry a virgin who would have played with you and you would have played with her? I said to him: Allah Messenger; my father died or he fell as a martyr ; and I have small sisters to look after ; so I did not like the idea that I should marry a woman who is like them and thus be not able to teach them manners and look after them properly. So I have married a non-virgin so that she should be able to look after them and teach them manners; When Allah Messenger ﷺ came to Medina; I went to him in the morning with the camel. On another occasion I took part in one of Ghazawat among with the Prophet ﷺ and I was riding one of our camels. The camel got tired and was lagging behind the others. Jabir replied; I have sisters young in age so I liked to marry a matron who could collect them all and comb their hair and look after them. The Prophet ﷺ said; You will reach; so when you have arrived at home ; I advise you to associate with your wife that you may have an intelligent son. Then he asked me; Would you like to sell your camel? I replied in the affirmative and the Prophet ﷺ purchased it for one Uqiya of gold. Allah Messenger ﷺ reached before me and I reached in the morning; and when I went to the Masjid; I found him at the door of the Masjid. He asked me; Have you arrived just now? I replied in the affirmative. He said; Leave your camel and come into the Masjid and pray two rakat. I entered and offered the prayer. He told Bilal to weigh and give me one Uqiya of gold. So Bilal weighed for me fairly and I went away. The Prophet ﷺ sent for me and I thought that he would return to me my camel which I hated more than anything else. Then he said words to the effect that: The camel got tried and the Prophet hit it; so it became energetic and came to the front of the army. I said: It is because of your blessing; O Messenger of Allah; He said: Sell it to me; and you can ride it till we arrive in AlMadinah. So I sold it to him. I was in great need of it myself but I felt too shy to refuse. When we finished our campaign; and we were close to AlMadinah; I asked his permission to go on ahead. I said: O Messenger of Allah; I am newly married. He said; Have you married a virgin or a previously married woman? I said: A previously married woman; O Messenger of Allah. Abdullah Bin Arm died and left behind young druthers; and I did not like to bring to them someone who was like them; so I married a previously married woman who could teach the; and rise them with good manners. So he gave me permission; and said to me; Go to When I arrived; I told my maternal uncle that I had sold the camel and he scolded me. When the Messenger of Allah came; I brought the camel to him; and he gave me the price of the camel; and the camel; and share of the spoils of war with the rest of the people.
