SahihAlBukhari-017-001-011Narrated Rabia: Umar Bin AlKhattab recited Surat AlNahl on a Friday on the pulpit and when he reached the verse of AlSajda he got down from the pulpit and prostrated and the people also prostrated. The next Friday Umar Bin AlKhattab recited the same Surat and when he reached the verse of AlSajda he said; O people! When we recite the verses of AlSajda during the sermon whoever prostrates does the right thing; yet it is no sin for the one who does not prostrate. And Umar did not prostrate that day. Added Ibn Umar Allah has not made the prostration of recitation compulsory but if we wish we can do it.The Chapter on Recitations In Friday in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Whoever thinks that Allah has not made prostration of recitation compulsory in Sahih AlBukhari
SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1273Narrated Abu Humaid AlSaidi: The Prophet ﷺ appointed a man from the tribe of Bani Asad; called Ibn AlUtabiya to collect the Zakat. When he returned with the money he said to the Prophet ; This is for you and this has been given to me as a gift. The Prophet ﷺ stood up on the pulpit Sufyan said he ascended the pulpit ; and after glorifying and praising Allah; he said; What is wrong with the employee whom we send to collect Zakat from the public that he returns to say; This is for you and that is for me? Why didnt he stay at his father and mother house to see whether he will be given gifts or not? By Him in Whose Hand my life is; whoever takes anything illegally will bring it on the Day of Resurrection by carrying it over his neck: if it is a camel; it will be grunting: if it is a cow; it will be mooing: and if it is a sheep it will be bleating! The Prophet ﷺ then raised both his hands till we saw the whiteness of his armpits and he said ; No doubt! Havent I conveyed Allah Message? SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1314Narrated Anas Bin Malik: That he heard Umar second speech he delivered when he sat on the pulpit on the day following the death of the Prophet ﷺ Umar recited the Tashahhud while Abu Bakr was silent. Umar said; I wish that Allah Messenger ﷺ had outlived all of us; i.e.; had been the last to die. But if Muhammad is dead; Allah nevertheless has kept the light amongst you from which you can receive the same guidance as Allah guided Muhammad with that. And Abu Bakr is the companion of Allah Messenger ﷺ He is the second of the two in the cave. He is the most entitled person among the Muslims to manage your affairs. Therefore get up and swear allegiance to him. Some people had already taken the oath of allegiance to him in the shed of Bani Saida but the oath of allegiance taken by the public was taken at the pulpit. I heard Umar saying to Abu Bakr on that day. Please ascend the pulpit; and kept on urging him till he ascended the pulpit whereupon; all the people swore allegiance to him.The Chapter on Writing Oaths And Pledges in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on The appointment of a caliph in Sahih AlBukhari

Then he would preach to them; advise them and give them orders; i.e. Khutba. And after that if he wished to send an army for an expedition; he would do so; or if he wanted to give and order; he would do so; and then depart. The people followed this tradition till I went out with Marwan; the Governor of Medina; for the prayer of Eid AlAdha or Eid AlFitr. When we reached the Mousalla; there was a pulpit made by Kathir Bin AlSalt. Marwan wanted to get up on that pulpit before the prayer. I got hold of his clothes but he pulled them and ascended the pulpit and delivered the Khutba before the prayer. I said to him; By Allah; you have changed the Prophet tradition. He replied; O Abu Said! Gone is that which you know. I said; By Allah! What I know is better than what I do not know. SahihMuslim-017-001-17852It has been narrated on the authority of Numan Bin Bashir who said: As I was sitting near the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; a man said: I do not care if; after embracing Islam; I do not do any good deed except distributing drinking water among the pilgrims. Another said: I do not care if; after embracing Islam; I do not do any good deed beyond maintenance service to the Sacred Masjid. Another said: Jihad in the way of Allah is better than what you have said. Umar reprimanded them and said: Dont raise your voices near the pulpit of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on Friday. When prayer was over; I entered the apartment of the Holy Prophet and asked his verdict about the matter in which they had differed. It was upon this that Allah; the Almighty and Exalted; revealed the Quranic verse: Do you make the giving of drinking water to the pilgrims and the maintenance of the Sacred Masjid equal to the service of those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and strive hard in the cause of Allah. It was then set up for him in the place of prayer. He fixed a day for the people on which they should come out. Aisha said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ; when the rim of the sun appeared; sat down on the pulpit; and having pronounced the greatness of Allah and expressed His praise; he said: You have complained of drought in your homes; and of the delay in receiving rain at the beginning of its season. Allah has ordered you to supplicate Him has and promised that He will answer your prayer. Then he said: Praise be to Allah; the Lord of the Universe; the Compassionate; the Merciful; the Master of the Day of Judgment. There is no god but Allah Who does what He wishes. O Allah; Thou art Allah; there is no deity but Thou; the Rich; while we are the poor. Send down the rain upon us and make what Thou sendest down a strength and satisfaction for a time. He then raised his hands; and kept raising them till the whiteness under his armpits was visible. He then turned his back to the people and inverted or turned round his cloak while keeping his hands aloft. He then faced the people; descended and prayed two rakahs. Allah then produced a cloud; and the storm of thunder and lightning came on. Then the rain fell by Allah permission; and before he reached his Masjid streams were flowing. When he saw the speed with which the people were seeking shelter; he ﷺ laughed till his back teeth were visible. Then he said: I testify that Allah is Omnipotent and that I am Allah servant and apostle.Abu Dawud said: This is a ghraib rate tradition; but its chain is sound.
