SahihMuslim-017-001-17614Imran Bin Hosain reported that the tribe of Thaqif was the ally of Banu Uqail. Thaqif took two persons from amongst the Companions of Allah Messenger ﷺ as prisoners. The Companions of Allah Messenger ﷺ took one person at Banu Uqail as prisoner; and captured AlAdbi the camel of the Holy Prophet along with him. Allah Messenger ﷺ came to him and he was tied with ropes. He said: Muhammad. He came near him and said: What is the matter with you? Thereupon he the prisoner said: Why have you taken me as prisoner and why have you caught hold of one proceeding the pilgrims the camel as she carried the Prophet on her back and walked ahead of the multitude ? He the Holy Prophet said: Yours is a great fault. I my men have caught hold of you for the crime of your allies; Banu Thaqif. He the Holy Prophet then turned away. He again called him and said: Muhammad; Muhammad; and since Allah Messenger ﷺ was very compassionate; and tenderhearted; he returned to him; and said: What is the matter with you? He said: I am a Muslim; whereupon he the Holy Prophet said: Had you said this when you had been the master of yourself; you would have gained every success. He then turned away. He the prisoner called him again saying: Muhammad; Muhammad. He came to him and said: What is the matter with you? He said: I am hungry; feed me; and I am thirsty; so provide me with drink. He the Holy Prophet said: That is to satisfy your want. He was then ransomed for two persons who had been taken prisoner by Thaqif. He the narrator said: A woman of the Ansar had been taken prisoner and also AlAdbi was caught. The woman had been tied with ropes. The people were giving rest to their animals before their houses. She escaped one night from the bondage and came to the camels. As she drew near the camels; they fretted and fumed and so she left them until she came to Al; Adbi. It did not fret and fume; it was docile She rode upon its back and drove it away and she went off. When they the enemies of Islam were warned of this; they went in search of it; but it the camel exhausted them. She the woman took vow for Allah; that in case He would save her through it; she would offer that as a sacrifice. As she reached Medina; the people saw her and they said: Here is AlAdbi; the camel of Allah Messenger ﷺ. She the woman said that she had taken a vow that if Allah would save her on its back; she would sacrifice it. They the Prophet Companions came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and made a mention of that to him; whereupon he said: Hallowed be Allah; how ill she rewarded it that she took vow to Allah that if He saves her on its back; she would sacrifice it! There is no fulfillment of the vow in an act of disobedience; nor in an act over which a person has no control. In the version of Ibn Hujr the words are : There is no vow in disobedience to Allah. The Chapter on Camels And Herdsmen And Holiness in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on 3 in Sahih Muslim

SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-24737Narrated Aws Ibn Hudhayfah: We came upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a deputation of Thaqif. The signatories of the pact came to AlMughirah Ibn Shubah as his guests. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made Bani Malik stay in a tent of his. Mousaddad version says: He was in the deputation of Thaqif which came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He used to visit and have a talk with us every day after the night prayer. The version of Abu Saeed says: He remained standing for such a long time talking to us that he put his weight sometimes on one leg and sometimes on the other due to his long stay. He mostly told us how his people; the Quraysh; behaved with him. He would say: We were not equal; we were weak and degraded at Mecca according to Mousaddad version. When we came over to Medina the fighting began between us; sometimes we overcome them and at other times they overcome us. One night he came late and did not come at the time he used to come. We asked him: You came late tonight? He said: I could not recite the fixed part of the Quran that I used to recite every day. I disliked to come till I had completed it. Aws said: I asked the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ : How do you divide the Quran for daily recitation? They said: Three surahs; five surahs; eleven surahs; thirteen surahs mufassal surahs.Abu Dawud said: The version of Abu Saeed is complete. The Chapter on Recitations In Friday in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on On Fixing A Part From The Quran For Daily Recitation in Sunan Abu Dawoud
SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-28581Imran Bin Hosain said: Adba belonged to a man of Banu Aqil. It used to go ahead of pligrims. The man was then captivated. He was brought in chains to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ was riding on a donkey with a blanket on him. He said: Muhammad; why do you arrest me and capture the one i.e. the camel which goes ahead of the pilgrims. He replied: We are arresting you on account of the crime committed by your allies Thaqid. Thaqif captivated two persons from among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. He said whatever he said I am a Muslim; or he said: I have embraced Islam. When the Prophet ﷺ went ahead; he called him: O Muhammed; O Muhammed. Abu Dawud said: I learnt it from the version of the narrator Muhammad Bin Isa. The Prophet ﷺ was compassionate and kind hearted. So he returned to him; and asked: What is the matter with you ? He replied: I am a Muslim. He said: Had you said it when the matter was in your hand; you would have succeeded completely. Abu Dawud said: I then returned to the version of the narrator Sulaiman Bin Harb. He said: Muhammad; I am hungry; so feed me. I am thirsty; so give me water. The Prophet ﷺ said: This is your need; or he said: This is his need the narrator is doubtful. Later on the man was taken back by Thaqif as a ransom for the two men of the Companions of the Prophet. The Prophet ﷺ retained Adba for his journey. The narrator said: The polytheists raided the pasturing animals of Medina and they took away Adba. When they took away Adba; they also captivated a Muslim woman. They used to leave their camels in the fields for rest at night. One night they slept and the Muslim woman stood up. Any camel on which she put her hand brayed until she came to Adba. She came to a camel which was docile and experienced. She then rode on her and vowed to Allah that if He saved her; she would sacrifice it. When she came to Medina; the people recognized the camel of the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ was then informed about it and he sent for her. She was brought to him and she informed him about her vow. He said: It is a bad return that you have given it. Allah has not saved you; on its back that you now sacrifice it. A vow to do an act of disobedience must not be fulfilled; or to do something over which one has no control.Abu Dawud said: This woman was the wife of Abu Dharr. The Chapter on Camels And Herdsmen And Holiness in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on A Vow Concerning What One Does Not Possess in Sunan Abu Dawoud
SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-29338Narrated Sakhr Ibn AlAyla AlAhmasi: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ raided Thaqif. When Sakhr heard this; he proceeded on his horse along with some horsemen to support the Prophet ﷺ. He found the Prophet of Allah ﷺ had returned and he did not conquer Taif. On that day Sakhr made a covenant with Allah and had His protection that he would not depart from that fortress until they the inhabitants surrendered to the command of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He did not leave them until they had surrendered to the command of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Sakhr then wrote to him: To proceed: Thaqif have surrendered to your command; Messenger of Allah; and I am on my way to them. They have horses with them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then ordered prayers to be offered in congregation. He then prayed for Ahmas ten times: O Allah; send blessings the horses and the men of Ahmas. The people came and Mughirah Ibn Shubah said to him: Prophet of Allah; Sakhr took my paternal aunt while she embraced Islam like other Muslims. He called him and said: Sakhr; when people embrace Islam; they have security of their blood and property. Give back to Mughirah his paternal aunt. So he returned his aunt to him and asked the Prophet of Allah ﷺ : What about Banu Sulaym who have run away for fear of Islam and left that water? He said: Prophet of Allah; allow me and my people to settle there. He said: Yes. So he allowed him to settle there. Banu Sulaym then embraced Islam; and they came to Sakhr. They asked him to return their water to them. But he refused. So they came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: Prophet of Allah; we embraced Islam and came to Sakhr so that he might return our water to us. But he has refused. He the Prophet then came to him and said: When people embrace Islam; they secure their properties and blood. Return to the people their water. He said: Yes; Prophet of Allah. I saw that the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was reddening at that moment; being ashamed of taking back from him the slave-girl and the water. The Chapter on Pre-Islam And Child Embracing Islam in HodHood Indexing, Chapter on Allocation Of Land in Sunan Abu Dawoud
