In the morning he said; I saw what you were doing and nothing but the fear that it i.e. the prayer might be enjoined on you; stopped me from coming to you. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1302Narrated AlMiswar Bin Makhrama: The group of people whom Umar had selected as candidates for the Caliphate gathered and consulted each other. Abdulrahman said to them; I am not going to compete with you in this matter; but if you wish; I would select for you a caliph from among you. So all of them agreed to let Abdulrahman decide the case. So when the candidates placed the case in the hands of Abdulrahman the people went towards him and nobody followed the rest of the group nor obeyed any after him. So the people followed Abdulrahman and consulted him all those nights till there came the night we gave the oath of allegiance to Uthman. AlMiswar bin Makhrama added: Abdulrahman called on me after a portion of the night had passed and knocked on my door till I got up; and he said to me; I see you have been sleeping! By Allah; during the last three nights I have not slept enough. Go and call AlZubair and Sad. So I called them for him and he consulted them and then called me saying; Call Ali for me. I called Ali and he held a private talk with him till very late at night; and then Al; got up to leave having had much hope to be chosen as a Caliph but Abdulrahman was afraid of something concerning Ali. Abdulrahman then said to me; Call Uthman for me. I called him and he kept on speaking to him privately till the Muadh-dhin put an end to their talk by announcing the Adhan for the Fajr prayer. When the people finished their morning prayer and that six men group gathered near the pulpit; Abdulrahman sent for all the Muhajirin emigrants and the Ansar present there and sent for the army chief who had performed the Hajj with Umar that year. When all of them had gathered; Abdulrahman said; None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; and added; Now then; O Ali; I have looked at the people tendencies and noticed that they do not consider anybody equal to Uthman; so you should not incur blame by disagreeing. Then Abdulrahman said to Uthman ; I gave the oath of allegiance to you on condition that you will follow Allah Laws and the traditions of Allah Apostle and the traditions of the two Caliphs after him. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1443Narrated Abu Said: A woman came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Men only benefit by your teachings; so please devote to us from some of your time; a day on which we may come to you so that you may teach us of what Allah has taught you. Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Gather on such-and-such a day at suchand- such a place. They gathered and Allah Messenger ﷺ came to them and taught them of what Allah had taught him. He then said; No woman among you who has lost her three children died but that they will screen her from the Fire. A woman among them said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! If she lost two children? She repeated her question twice; whereupon the Prophet ﷺ said; Even two; even two; even two! SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1592Narrated Ibn Abbas: I used to teach the Quran to some people of the Muhajirln emigrants ; among whom there was Abdulrahman Bin Auf. While I was in his house at Mina; and he was with Umar Bin AlKhattab during Umar last Hajj; Abdulrahman came to me and said; Would that you had seen the man who came today to the Chief of the Believers Umar ; saying; O Chief of the Believers! What do you think about so-and-so who says; If Umar should die; I will give the pledge of allegiance to such-andsuch person; as by Allah; the pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr was nothing but a prompt sudden action which got established afterwards. Umar became angry and then said; Allah willing; I will stand before the people tonight and warn them against those people who want to deprive the others of their rights the question of rulership. Abdulrahman said; I said; O Chief of the believers! Do not do that; for the season of Hajj gathers the riff-raff and the rubble; and it will be they who will gather around you when you stand to address the people. And I am afraid that you will get up and say something; and some people will spread your statement and may not say what you have actually said and may not understand its meaning; and may interpret it incorrectly; so you should wait till you reach Medina; as it is the place of emigration and the place of Prophet Traditions; and there you can come in touch with the learned and noble people; and tell them your ideas with confidence; and the learned people will understand your statement and put it in its proper place. On that; Umar said; By Allah! Allah willing; I will do this in the first speech I will deliver before the people in Medina. Ibn Abbas added: We reached Medina by the end of the month of Dhu AlHijja; and when it was Friday; we went quickly to the Masjid as soon as the sun had declined; and I saw Saeed Bin Zaid Bin Amr Bin Nufail sitting at the corner of the pulpit; and I too sat close to him so that my knee was touching his knee; and after a short while Umar Bin AlKhattab came out; and when I saw him coming towards us; I said to Saeed Bin Zaid Bin Amr Bin Nufail Today Umar will say such a thing as he has never said since he was chosen as Caliph. Saeed denied my statement with astonishment and said; What thing do you expect Umar to say the like of which he has never said before? In the meantime; Umar sat on the pulpit and when the callmakers for the prayer had finished their call; Umar stood up; and having glorified and praised Allah as He deserved; he said; Now then; I am going to tell you something which Allah has written for me to say. I do not know; perhaps it portends my death; so whoever understands and remembers it; must narrate it to the others wherever his mount takes him; but if somebody is afraid that he does not understand it; then it is unlawful for him to tell lies about me. Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth and revealed the Holy Book to him; and among what Allah revealed; was the Verse of the Rajam the stoning of married person male & female who commits illegal sexual intercourse; and we did recite this Verse and understood and memorized it. Allah Messenger ﷺ did carry out the punishment of stoning and so did we after him. I am afraid that after a long time has passed; somebody will say; By Allah; we do not find the Verse of the Rajam in Allah Book; and thus they will go astray by leaving an obligation which Allah has revealed. And the punishment of the Rajam is to be inflicted to any married person male & female ; who commits illegal sexual intercourse; if the required evidence is available or there is conception or confession. And then we used to recite among the Verses in Allah Book: O people! Do not claim to be the offspring of other than your fathers; as it is disbelief unthankfulness on your part that you claim to be the offspring of other than your real father. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ said; Do not praise me excessively as Jesus; son of Marry was praised; but call me Allah Slave and His Apostles. O people! I have been informed that a speaker amongst you says; By Allah; if Umar should die; I will give the pledge of allegiance to such-and-such person. One should not deceive oneself by saying that the pledge of allegiance given to Abu Bakr was given suddenly and it was successful. No doubt; it was like that; but Allah saved the people from its evil; and there is none among you who has the qualities of Abu Bakr. Remember that whoever gives the pledge of allegiance to anybody among you without consulting the other Muslims; neither that person; nor the person to whom the pledge of allegiance was given; are to be supported; lest they both should be killed. And no doubt after the death of the Prophet ﷺ we were informed that the Ansar disagreed with us and gathered in the shed of Bani Sada. Ali and AlZubair and whoever was with them; opposed us; while the emigrants gathered with Abu Bakr. I said to Abu Bakr; Let go to these Ansari brothers of ours. So we set out seeking them; and when we approached them; two pious men of theirs met us and informed us of the final decision of the Ansar; and said; O group of Muhajirin emigrants ! Where are you going? We replied; We are going to these Ansari brothers of ours. They said to us; You shouldnt go near them. Carry out whatever we have already decided. I said; By Allah; we will go to them. And so we proceeded until we reached them at the shed of Bani Sada. Behold! There was a man sitting amongst them and wrapped in something. I asked; Who is that man? They said; He is Saad Bin Ubada. I asked; What is wrong with him? They said; He is sick. After we sat for a while; the Ansar speaker said; None has the right to be worshipped but Allah; and praising Allah as He deserved; he added; To proceed; we are Allah Ansar helpers and the majority of the Muslim army; while you; the emigrants; are a small group and some people among you came with the intention of preventing us from practicing this matter of caliphate and depriving us of it. When the speaker had finished; I intended to speak as I had prepared a speech which I liked and which I wanted to deliver in the presence of Abu Bakr; and I used to avoid provoking him. So; when I wanted to speak; Abu Bakr said; Wait a while. I disliked to make him angry. So Abu Bakr himself gave a speech; and he was wiser and more patient than I. By Allah; he never missed a sentence that I liked in my own prepared speech; but he said the like of it or better than it spontaneously. After a pause he said; O Ansar! You deserve all the qualities that you have attributed to yourselves; but this question of Caliphate is only for the Quraish as they are the best of the Arabs as regards descent and home; and I am pleased to suggest that you choose either of these two men; so take the oath of allegiance to either of them as you wish. And then Abu Bakr held my hand and Abu Ubaida Bin AlJarrah hand who was sitting amongst us. I hated nothing of what he had said except that proposal; for by Allah; I would rather have my neck chopped off as expiator for a sin than become the ruler of a nation; one of whose members is Abu Bakr; unless at the time of my death my own-self suggests something I dont feel at present. And then one of the Ansar said; I am the pillar on which the camel with a skin disease eczema rubs itself to satisfy the itching i.e.; I am a noble ; and I am as a high class palm tree! O Quraish. There should be one ruler from us and one from you. Then there was a hue and cry among the gathering and their voices rose so that I was afraid there might be great disagreement; so I said; O Abu Bakr! Hold your hand out. He held his hand out and I pledged allegiance to him; and then all the emigrants gave the Pledge of allegiance and so did the Ansar afterwards. And so we became victorious over Saad Bin Ubada whom AlAnsar wanted to make a ruler. One of the Ansar said; You have killed Saad Bin Ubada. I replied; Allah has killed Saad Bin Ubada. Umar added; By Allah; apart from the great tragedy that had happened to us i.e. the death of the Prophet ; there was no greater problem than the allegiance pledged to Abu Bakr because we were afraid that if we left the people; they might give the Pledge of allegiance after us to one of their men; in which case we would have given them our consent for something against our real wish; or would have opposed them and caused great trouble. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1677Narrated Ibn Abbas: A man came to Allah Messenger ﷺ and said; I saw in a dream; a cloud having shade. Butter and honey were dropping from it and I saw the people gathering it in their hands; some gathering much and some a little. And behold; there was a rope extending from the earth to the sky; and I saw that you the Prophet held it and went up; and then another man held it and went up and after that another third held it and went up; and then after another fourth man held it; but it broke and then got connected again. Abu Bakr said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Let my father be sacrificed for you! Allow me to interpret this dream. The Prophet ﷺ said to him; Interpret it. Abu Bakr said; The cloud with shade symbolizes Islam; and the butter and honey dropping from it; symbolizes the Quran; its sweetness dropping and some people learning much of the Quran and some a little. The rope which is extended from the sky to the earth is the Truth which you the Prophet are following. You follow it and Allah will raise you high with it; and then another man will follow it and will rise up with it and another person will follow it and then another man will follow it but it will break and then it will be connected for him and he will rise up with it. O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Let my father be sacrificed for you! Am I right or wrong? The Prophet replied; You are right in some of it and wrong in some. Abu Bakr said; O Allah Prophet! By Allah; you must tell me in what I was wrong. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1918Narrated Abu Saeed AlKhudri: While I was present in one of the gatherings of the Ansar; Abu Mousa came as if he was scared; and said; I asked permission to enter upon Umar three times; but I was not given the permission; so I returned. When Umar came to know about it he said to Abu Mousa; Why did you not enter?. Abu Mousa replied; I asked permission three times; and I was not given it; so I returned; for Allah Messenger ﷺ said; If anyone of you asks the permission to enter thrice; and the permission is not given; then he should return. Umar said; By Allah! We will ask Abu Mousa to bring witnesses for it. Abu Mousa went to a gathering of the Ansar and said. Did anyone of you hear this from the Prophet ﷺ ? Ubai Bin Kaab said; By Allah; none will go with you but the youngest of the people as a witness. Abu Said was the youngest of them; so I went with Abu Mousa and informed Umar that the Prophet ﷺ had said so. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-1927Narrated Urwa-bin AlZubair: Usama Bin Zaid said; The Prophet ﷺ rode over a donkey with a saddle underneath which there was a thick soft Fadakiya velvet sheet. Usama Bin Zaid was his companion rider; and he was going to pay a visit to Saad Bin Ubada who was sick at the dwelling place of Bani AlHarith Bin AlKhazraj; and this incident happened before the battle of Badr. The Prophet ﷺ passed by a gathering in which there were Muslims and pagan idolators and Jews; and among them there was Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Salul; and there was Abdullah Bin Rawaha too. When a cloud of dust raised by the animal covered that gathering; Abdullah Bin Ubai covered his nose with his Rida sheet and said to the Prophet ; Dont cover us with dust. The Prophet ﷺ greeted them and then stopped; dismounted and invited them to Allah i.e.; to embrace Islam and also recited to them the Holy Quran. Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Salul said; O man! There is nothing better than what you say; if what you say is the truth. So do not trouble us in our gatherings. Go back to your mount or house; and if anyone of us comes to you; tell your tales to him. On that Abdullah Bin Rawaha said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Come to us and bring it what you want to say in our gatherings; for we love that. So the Muslims; the pagans and the Jews started quarreling till they were about to fight and clash with one another. The Prophet ﷺ kept on quietening them till they all became quiet. He then rode his animal; and proceeded till he entered upon Saad Bin Ubada; he said; O Sad; didnt you hear what Abu Habbab said? He meant Abdullah Bin Ubai. He said so-and-so. Saad Bin Ubada said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Excuse and forgive him; for by Allah; Allah has given you what He has given you. The people of this town decided to crown him as their chief and make him their king. But when Allah prevented that with the Truth which He had given you; it choked him; and that was what made him behave in the way you saw him behaving. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2223Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet ﷺ said; The people will be gathered in three ways: The first way will be of those who will wish or have a hope for Paradise and will have a fear of punishment ; The second batch will be those who will gather riding two on a camel or three on a camel or ten on a camel. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-2475Narrated Usama Bin Zaid: The Prophet ﷺ rode a donkey having a saddle with a Fadakiya velvet covering. He mounted me behind him and went to visit Saad Bin Ubada; and that had been before the battle of Badr. The Prophet ﷺ proceeded till he passed by a gathering in which Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Salul was present; and that had been before Abdullah embraced Islam. The gathering comprised of Muslims; polytheists; i.e.; isolators and Jews. Abdullah Bin Rawaha was also present in that gathering. When dust raised by the donkey covered the gathering; Abdullah Bin Ubai covered his nose with his upper garment and said; Do not trouble us with dust. The Prophet ﷺ greeted them; stopped and dismounted. Then he invited them to Allah i.e.; to embrace Islam and recited to them some verses of the Holy Quran. On that; Abdullah Bin Ubai said; O man ! There is nothing better than what you say if it is true. Do not trouble us with it in our gathering; but return to your house; and if somebody comes to you; teach him there. On that Abdullah Bin Rawaha said; Yes; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Bring your teachings to our gathering; for we love that. So the Muslims; the pagans and the Jews started abusing each other till they were about to fight. The Prophet ﷺ kept on quietening them till they became calm. Thereupon the Prophet mounted his animal and proceeded till he entered upon Saad Bin Ubada. He said to him O Sad! Have you not heard what Abu Hubab i.e.; Abdullah Bin Ubai said? Saad said; O Allah Apostle! Excuse and forgive him; for Allah has given you what He has given you. Didnt you hear what Abu Habab said? meaning Abdullah Bin Unbar. He said so-and-so. Saad Bin Ubada said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Let my father be sacrificed for you ! Excuse and forgive him for; by Him Who revealed to you the Book; Allah sent the Truth which was revealed to you at the time when the people of this town had decided to crown him Abdullah Bin Ubai as their ruler. So when Allah had prevented that with the Truth He had given you; he was choked by that; and that caused him to behave in such an impolite manner which you had noticed. So Allah Messenger ﷺ excused him. It was the custom of Allah Messenger ﷺ and his companions to excuse the pagans and the people of the scripture Christians and Jews as Allah ordered them; and they used to be patient when annoyed by them. Allah said: You shall certainly hear much that will grieve you from those who received the Scripture before you.....and from the pagans 3.186 He also said: Many of the people of the scripture wish that if they could turn you away as disbelievers after you have believed..... 2.109 So Allah Messenger ﷺ used to apply what Allah had ordered him by excusing them till he was allowed to fight against them. When Allah Messenger ﷺ had fought the battle of Badr and Allah killed whomever He killed among the chiefs of the infidels and the nobles of Quraish; and Allah Messenger ﷺ and his companions had returned with victory and booty; bringing with them some of the chiefs of the infidels and the nobles of the Quraish as captives. Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Salul and the pagan idolators who were with him; said; This matter Islam has now brought out its face triumphed ; so give Allah Messenger ﷺ the pledge of allegiance for embracing Islam.. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-3662Narrated Anas Bin Malik: Abu Bakr and AlAbbas passed by one of the gatherings of the Ansar who were weeping then. He i.e. Abu Bakr or AlAbbas asked; Why are you weeping? They replied; We are weeping because we remember the gathering of the Prophet ﷺ with us. So Abu Bakr went to the Prophet ﷺ and told him of that. The Prophet ﷺ came out; tying his head with a piece of the hem of a sheet. He ascended the pulpit which he never ascended after that day. He glorified and praised Allah and then said; I request you to take care of the Ansar as they are my near companions to whom I confided my private secrets. They have fulfilled their obligations and rights which were enjoined on them but there remains what is for them. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-4046Narrated Anas Bin Malik: When Allah favored His Apostle with the properties of Hawazin tribe as Fai booty ; he started giving to some Quarries men even up to one-hundred camels each; whereupon some Ansari men said about Allah Messenger ﷺ ; May Allah forgive His Apostle! He is giving to men of Quraish and leaves us; in spite of the fact that our swords are still dropping blood of the infidels When Allah Messenger ﷺ was informed of what they had said; he called the Ansar and gathered them in a leather tent and did not call anybody else along; with them. When they gathered; Allah Messenger ﷺ came to them and said; What is the statement which; I have been informed; and that which you have said? The learned ones among them replied; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! The wise ones amongst us did not say anything; but the youngsters amongst us said; May Allah forgive His Apostle; he gives the Quarish and leaves the Ansar; in spite of the fact that our swords are still dribbling wet with the blood of the infidels. Allah Messenger ﷺ replied; I give to such people as are still close to the period of Infidelity i.e. they have recently embraced Islam and Faith is still weak in their hearts. Wont you be pleased to see people go with fortune; while you return with Allah Messenger ﷺ to your houses? By Allah; what you will return with; is better than what they are returning with. The Ansar replied; Yes; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ; we are satisfied Then the Prophet ﷺ said to them. You will find after me; others being preferred to you. Then be patient till you meet Allah and meet His Apostle at AlKauthar i.e. a fount in Paradise. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-416Narrated Ayoub : Hafsa bint Seereen said; On Id we used to forbid our girls to go out for Id prayer. A lady came and stayed at the palace of Bani Khalaf and I went to her. She said; The husband of my sister took part in twelve holy battles along with the Prophet ﷺ and my sister was with her husband in six of them. My sister said that they used to nurse the sick and treat the wounded. Once she asked; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! If a woman has no veil; is there any harm if she does not come out on Id day ? The Prophet ﷺ said; Her companion should let her share her veil with her; and the women should participate in the good deeds and in the religious gatherings of the believers. Hafsa added; When Um-Atiya came; I went to her and asked her; Did you hear anything about so-and-so? Um-Atiya said; Yes; let my father be sacrificed for the Prophet ﷺ. And whenever she mentioned the name of the Prophet ﷺ she always used to say; Let my father be sacrificed for him. He said; Virgin mature girls staying often screened or said; Mature girls and virgins staying often screened-Aiyub is not sure as which was right and menstruating women should come out on the Id day. But the menstruating women should keep away from the Mousalla. And all the women should participate in the good deeds and in the religious gatherings of the believers. Hafsa said; On that I said to Um-Atiya; Also those who are menstruating? Um-Atiya replied; Yes. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-481Narrated Ibn Abbas: Once the Prophet ﷺ ascended the pulpit and it was the last gathering in which he took part. He was covering his shoulder with a big cloak and binding his head with an oily bandage. He glorified and praised Allah and said; O people! Come to me. So the people came and gathered around him and he then said; Amma badu. From now onward the Ansar will decrease and other people will increase. SahihAlBukhari-017-001-5086Narrated Abu Huraira: The people say that Abu Huraira narrates too many narrations. In fact Allah knows whether I say the truth or not. They also ask; Why do the emigrants and the Ansar not narrate as he does? In fact; my emigrant brethren were busy trading in the markets; and my Ansar brethren were busy with their properties. I was a poor man keeping the company of Allah Messenger ﷺ and was satisfied with what filled my stomach. So; I used to be present while they i.e. the emigrants and the Ansar were absent; and I used to remember while they forgot the Hadith. One day the Prophet ﷺ said; Whoever spreads his sheet till I finish this statement of mine and then gathers it on his chest; will never forget anything of my statement. So; I spread my covering sheet which was the only garment I had; till the Prophet ﷺ finished his statement and then I gathered it over my chest. By Him Who had sent him i.e. Allah Apostle with the truth; since then I did not forget even a single word of that statement of his; until this day of mine. By Allah; but for two verses in Allah Book; I would never have related any narration from the Prophet. These two verses are : Verily! SahihAlBukhari-017-001-5323Narrated Abu Huraira: You people say that Abu Huraira tells many narrations from Allah Messenger ﷺ and you also wonder why the emigrants and Ansar do not narrate from Allah Messenger ﷺ as Abu Huraira does. My emigrant brothers were busy in the market while I used to stick to Allah Messenger ﷺ content with what fills my stomach; so I used to be present when they were absent and I used to remember when they used to forget; and my Ansari brothers used to be busy with their properties and I was one of the poor men of Suffa. I used to remember the narrations when they used to forget. No doubt; Allah Messenger ﷺ once said; Whoever spreads his garment till I have finished my present speech and then gathers it to himself; will remember whatever I will say. So; I spread my colored garment which I was wearing till Allah Messenger ﷺ had finished his saying; and then I gathered it to my chest. Whenever she mentioned the Prophet ﷺ she used to say; May my father be sacrificed for him I have heard the Prophet ﷺ saying; The unmarried young virgins and the mature girl who stay often screened or the young unmarried virgins who often stay screened and the menstruating women should come out and participate in the good deeds as well as the religious gathering of the faithful believers but the menstruating women should keep away from the Mousalla praying place. Hafsa asked Um Atiya surprisingly; Do you say the menstruating women? She said; We used to dress the wounded and look after the patients. She her sister asked Allah Messenger ﷺ ; Is there any harm for a woman to stay at home if she doesnt have a veil? He said; She should cover herself with the veil of her companion and she should take part in the good deeds and in the religious gatherings of the believers. When Um Atiya came; I asked her. Did you hear anything about that? Um Atiya said; Bi Abi and she never mentioned the name of Allah Messenger ﷺ without saying Bi Abi i.e. Let my father be sacrificed for you. We asked her; Have you heard Allah Messenger ﷺ saying so and so about women ? She replied in the affirmative and said; Let my father be sacrificed for him. He told us that unmarried mature virgins who stay often screened or unmarried young virgins and mature girls who stay often screened should come out and take part in the good deeds and in the religious gatherings of the believers. But the menstruating women should keep away from the Mousalla praying place. I asked her; The menstruating women? SahihAlBukhari-017-001-6664Narrated Anas Bin Malik: When Allah gave Allah Messenger ﷺ what he gave of the properties of the Hawazin tribe as a war booty; the Prophet ﷺ started giving some men 100 camels each. The Ansar then said; May Allah forgive Allah Messenger ﷺ s as he gives to Quraish and leaves us although our swords are still dribbling with the blood of Quraish. Allah Apostle was informed of their statement; so he sent for the Ansar and gathered them in a leather tent; and did not call anybody else along with them. When they AlI gathered; the Prophet ﷺ got up and said; What is this talk being informed to me about you? The learned men amongst the Ansar said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Our chiefs did not say anything; but some people amongst us who are younger in age said. May Allah forgive Allah Messenger ﷺ as he gives of the booty to Quraish and leaves us though our swords are still dribbling with their blood. The Prophet ﷺ said; I give to these men who have newly deserted heathenism and embraced Islam so as to attract their hearts. Wont you be happy that the people take the wealth while you take the Prophet ﷺ with you to your homes? By Allah; what you are taking is better than whatever they are taking. They i.e. the Ansar said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! We are satisfied. The Prophet ﷺ then said to them. You will find others favored over you greatly; so be patient till you meet Allah and His Apostle and I will be at the Tank then. He was going to pay visit to Saad Bin Ubada in Banu AlHarith Bin AlKhazraj; and this incident happened before the battle of Badr. The Prophet ﷺ passed by a gathering in which Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Salul was present; and that was before Abdullah Bin Ubai embraced Islam. Behold in that gathering there were people of different religions: there were Muslims; pagans; idol-worshippers and Jews; and in that gathering Abdullah Bin Rawaha was also present. When a cloud of dust raised by the donkey reached that gathering; Abdullah Bin Ubai covered his nose with his garment and then said; Do not cover us with dust. Then Allah Messenger ﷺ greeted them and stopped and dismounted and invited them to Allah i.e. to embrace Islam and recited to them the Holy Quran. On that; Abdullah Bin Ubai Bin Saluil said; O man ! There is nothing better than that what you say. If it is the truth; then do not trouble us with it in our gatherings. Return to your mount or residence and if somebody comes to you; relate your tales to him. On that Abdullah Bin Rawaha said; Yes; O Allah Apostle! Bring it i.e. what you want to say to us in our gathering; for we love that. So the Muslims; the pagans and the Jews started abusing one another till they were on the point of fighting with one another. The Prophet ﷺ kept on quietening them till they became quiet; whereupon the Prophet rode his animal mount and proceeded till he entered upon Saad Bin Ubada. The Prophet ﷺ said to Sad; Did you not hear what Abu Hub-b said? He meant Abdullah Bin Ubai. He said so-andso. On that Saad Bin Ubada said; O Allah Messenger ﷺ ! Excuse and forgive him; for by Him Who revealed the Book to you; Allah brought the Truth which was sent to you at the time when the people of this town i.e. Medina had decided unanimously to crown him and tie a turban on his head electing him as chief. But when Allah opposed that decision through the Truth which Allah gave to you; he i.e. Abdullah Bin Ubai was grieved with jealously. and that caused him to do what you have seen. So Allah Messenger ﷺ excused him; for the Prophet ﷺ and his companions used to forgive the pagans and the people of Scripture as Allah had ordered them; and they used to put up with their mischief with patience. Allah said: And you shall certainly hear much that will grieve you from those who received the Scripture before you and from the pagans........ 3.186 And Allah also said:-Many of the people of the Scripture wish if they could turn you away as disbelievers after you have believed; from selfish envy.. 2.109 So the Prophet ﷺ used to stick to the principle of forgiveness for them as long as Allah ordered him to do so till Allah permitted fighting them. So when Allah Messenger ﷺ fought the battle of Badr and Allah killed the nobles of Quraish infidels through him; Ibn Ubai Bin Salul and the pagans and idolaters who were with him; said; This matter i.e. Islam has appeared i.e. became victorious. SahihMuslim-017-001-17759It has been narrated on the authority of Abdulrahman Bin Abd Rabb AlKaba who said: I entered the Masjid when Abdullah Bin Amr Bin AlAs was sitting in the shade of the Kaba and the people had gathered around him. I betook myself to them and sat near him. Now Abdullah said: I accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey. We halted at a place. Some of us began to set right their tents; others began to compete with one another in shooting; and others began to graze their beasts; when an announcer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ announced that the people should gather together for prayer; so we gathered around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: It was the duty of every Prophet that has gone before me to guide his followers to what he knew was good for them and warn them against what he knew was bad for them; but this Umma of yours has its days of peace and security in the beginning of its career; and in the last phase of its existence it will be afflicted with trials and with things disagreeable to you. In this phase of the Umma ; there will be tremendous trials one after the other; each making the previous one dwindle into insignificance. When they would be afflicted with a trial; the believer would say: This is going to bring about my destruction. When at the trial is over; they would be afflicted with another trial; and the believer would say: This surely is going to be my end. Whoever wishes to be delivered from the fire and enter the garden should die with faith in Allah and the Last Day and should treat the people as he wishes to be treated by them. He who swears allegiance to a Caliph should give him the piedge of his hand and the sincerity of his heart i. e. submit to him both outwardly as well as inwardly. He should obey him to the best of his capacity. It another man comes forward as a claimant to Caliphate ; disputing his authority; they the Muslims should behead the latter. The narrator says: I came close to him Abdullah Bin Amr Bin AlAs and said to him: Can you say on oath that you heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ? He pointed with his hands to his ears and his heart and said: My ears heard it and my mind retained it. I said to him: This cousin of yours; Muawiya; orders us to unjustly consume our wealth among ourselves and to kill one another; while Allah says: O ye who believe; do not consume your wealth among yourselves unjustly; unless it be trade based on mutual agreement; and do not kill yourselves. Verily; God is Merciful to you iv. 29. SunanAlNasai-017-001-13862It was narrated that Abdulrahman Bin Abd Rabb AlKabah said: I came to Abdullah Bin Amr Bin AlAs while he was sitting in the shade of Kabah; and the people were gathered around him; and I heard him say: While we were with the Messenger of Allah on a journey; we stopped to camp; and some of us were pitching tents; some were competing in shooting arrows; and some were taking the animals out to race them. Then the caller of the Prophet called out: AlPrayeru Jamiah prayer is about to begin. So we gathered; and the Messenger of Allah stood up and addressed us. He said: There has a never been a prophet before me who was not obliged to tell his nation of what he knew was good for them; and to warn against that he knew was bad for them. With regard to Ummah of yours; soundness of religious commitment has been placed in its earlier generations; and the last of them will be afflicted with calamities and things that you dislike. Then there will come tribulations which will make the earlier ones pale into significances; and the believer will say: This will be then end of me; then relief will come. Then more tribulations will come and the believer will say: this will be the end of me; then relief will come. Whoever would like to be taken far away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise; let him die believing in Allah and the Last Day; and let him treat people as he would like to be treated. Whoever pledges to a ruler and gives him the grasp of his hand and the sincerity of his heart; the let him obey him as much as he can; and if another comes and challenges him; let them strike the neck of i.e.; kill the second one.He said: I drew near to him and said: Did you hear the Messenger of Allah say that? He said: I adjure you by Allah; beside Whom there is none worthy of worship; are you aware that the Messenger of Allah said: Whoever buys the well of Rumah; Allah will forgive him; so I came to the Messenger of Allah and said: I have bought the well of Rumah. He said: Give it to provide water for the Muslims; and the reward for it will be yours? They said: Yes. He said: I adjure you by Allah; beside Whom there is none worthy of worship; are you aware that the Messenger of Allah said: Whoever equips the army of AlUsrah i.e. Tabuk ; Allah will forgive him; so I equipped them until they were not lacking even a rope or a bridle? They said: Yes. SunanAbuDawoud-017-001-25111Aisha wife of the Prophet ﷺ said Marriage in pre Islamic times was of four kinds. One of them was the marriage contracted by the people today. A man asked another man to marry his relative sister or daughter to him. He fixed the dower and married her to him. Another kind of marriage was that a man asked his wife when she became pure from menstruation to send fro so and so and have sexual intercourse with him. Her husband kept himself aloof and did not have intercourse with her till It became apparent that she was pregnant from the man who had intercourse with her. When it was manifest that she was pregnant; her husband approached her if he liked. This marriage was called istibda to utilize man for intercourse for a noble birth. A third kind of marriage was that a group of people less than ten in number entered upon a woman and had intercourse with her. When she conceived gave birth to a child and a number of days passed after her delivery; she sent for them. No one of them could refuse to attend and they gathered before her. She said to them You have realized your affair. I have now given birth to a child. And this is your son. O so and so. She called the name of anyone of them she liked and the child was attributed to him. A fourth kind of marriage was that many people gathered together and entered upon a woman who did not prevent anyone who came to her. They were prostitutes. They hoisted flags at their doors which served as a sign for the one who intended to enter upon them. When she became pregnant and delivered the child ; they got together before her and called for the experts of tracing relationship from physical features. They attributed the child to whom they considered and it was given to him. The child was called his son and he could not deny. He replied: Yes; a piece of cloth; a part of which we wear and a part of which we spread on the ground ; and a wooden bowl from which we drink water. He said: Bring them to me. He then brought these articles to him and he the Prophet took them in his hands and asked: Who will buy these? A man said: I shall buy them for one dirham. He said twice or thrice: Who will offer more than one dirham? A man said: I shall buy them for two dirhams. He gave these to him and took the two dirhams and; giving them to the Ansari; he said: Buy food with one of them and hand it to your family; and buy an axe and bring it to me. He then brought it to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ fixed a handle on it with his own hands and said: Go; gather firewood and sell it; and do not let me see you for a fortnight. The man went away and gathered firewood and sold it. When he had earned ten dirhams; he came to him and bought a garment with some of them and food with the others. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said: This is better for you than that begging should come as a spot on your face on the Day of Judgment. On any number of camels above that; for every forty camels; a camel in its third year; and for every fifty; a camel in its fourth year. On grazing sheep and goats; if they come to forty or more; up to one hundred and twenty head; one ewe. On anything above that; up to two hundred head; two ewes. On anything above that; up to three hundred; three ewes. On anything above that; for every hundred; one ewe. A ram should not be taken for zakat. nor an old or an injured ewe; except as the zakat-collector thinks fit. Those separated should not be gathered together nor should those gathered together be separated in order to avoid paying zakat. MuwataMalik-017-001-35572Yahya said that Malik said; concerning two associates; If they share one herdsman; one male animal; one pasture and one watering place then the two men are associates; as long as each one of them knows his own property from that of his companion If someone cannot tell his property apart from that of his fellow; he is not an associate; but rather; a co-owner Malik said; It is not obligatory for both associates to pay zakat unless both of them have a zakatable amount of livestock. If; for instance; one of the associates has forty or more sheep and goats and the other has less than forty sheep and goats; then the one who has forty has to pay zakat and the one who has less does not. If both of them have a zakatable amount of livestock then both of them are assessed together i.e the flock is assessed as one and both of them have to pay zakat. If one of them has a thousand sheep; or less; that he has to pay zakat on; and the other has forty; or more; then they are associates; and each one pays his contribution according to the number of animals he has - so much from the one with a thousand; and so much from the one with forty. Malik said; Two associates in camels are the same as two associates in sheep and goats; and; for the purposes of zakat; are assessed together if each one of them has a zakatable amount of camels. Yahya said that Malik said; This is what I like most out of what I have heard about the matter. Malik said; What he meant when he said; Those separated should not be gathered together is; for instance; that there is a group of three men; each of whom has forty sheep and goats; and each of whom thus has to pay zakat. Then; when the zakat collector is on his way ;they gather their flocks together so that they only owe one ewe between them. This they are forbidden to do. What he meant when he said; nor should those gathered together be separated; is; for instance; that there are two associates; each one of whom has a hundred and one sheep and goats; and each of whom must therefore pay three ewes. Then; when the zakat collector is on his way; they split up their flocks so that they only have to pay one ewe each. This they are forbidden to do. And so it is said; Those separated should not be gathered together nor should those gathered together be separated in order to avoid paying zakat. MuwataMalik-017-001-35703Malik related to me from Ibn Shihab from Urwa Ibn AlZubair that Abdulrahman Ibn Abd AlQari said; I went out with Umar Ibn alKhattab in Ramadan to the Masjid and the people there were spread out in groups. Some men were praying by themselves; whilst others were praying in small groups. Umar said; By Allah! It would be better in my opinion if these people gathered behind one reciter. So he gathered them behind Ubay Ibn Kaab Then I went out with him another night and the people were praying behind their Quran reciter. Umar said; How excellent this new way is; but what you miss while you are asleep is better than what you watch in prayer.
